“Living with the Spirit of Power, Love, and a Sound Mind”

When Timothy was facing uncertainty and needed encouragement, St Paul reminded him: “for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (II Timothy 1:7)
With God’s amazing love guiding his life, Timothy could have the confidence he needed to face unknown days in his immediate life, work and ministry. God’s amazing love for us in Jesus gives us that same confidence in these unprecedented times. With God’s love made sure in Jesus, not only Pastors, but all of us are reminded that it is not a spirit of fear that the Holy Spirit has worked in us, rather a spirit of POWER AND LOVE. Absolutely certain that our God and Father is at our side to care for us in soul and body, we have a power that faces and conquerors the world’s troubles, hardships and hostility. By Word and Sacrament, God’s Spirit works in us a confident love for Him and for others, a love that is not forgotten or put aside in hardship. His Word and Spirit lead us to have a sound mind, a self-discipline that applies the purpose and intelligence of our faith to times of hardship. While a sound mind in Jesus is always needed, it is ESPECIALLY needed in these more troublesome times.

Effective immediately, Christ the King will suspend gathering publicly for our regular Sunday morning and Monday evening Divine Services for the next several weeks.

While we cannot gather together as a family of faith, we will however, be offering the congregation the following options to nourish your spiritual lives at this time:

First, we will live stream our Divine Worship on Facebook Live each Sunday at 10:45am. Schedule for Holy Week:  Maundy Thursday, April 9 at 11:00am, Good Friday at April 10, 11:00am, and Easter Sunday, April 12 at 9:00am. This will give you an opportunity to worship in Spirit and in Truth with your brothers and sisters, even though at a distance. A copy of our Divine Service is available on this Website so that you may follow the Order of Service each week. Click on the link to the left.
Second. For members who do not have Facebook capability, I am offering to send you a copy of my Sunday Sermon as well as a service that you can use around your family table each week. These materials will be sent out AT YOUR REQUEST, which you can make by email or by phone call to our office – please leave a message.
Third, devotions are offered each day on our Facebook page. You can also request a copy of our Lenten Devotional Booklet or Portals of Prayer as well.
Fourth, I am offering Private Confession and Absolution and the Lord’s Supper to members by individual appointment. Simply call me at 313-884-5090 ext. 3 or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to make an appointment.

It is our fervent prayer that we may be able to return to public worship in Divine Service together for Holy Week and Easter. This of course will be determined as we live through the next days and weeks of this epidemic.
